鶴ヶ城

Around 1,000 cherry trees bloom.
Centered on Somei Yoshino, there are many varieties including Shidare-zakura, Edo-higan, Sato-zakura, Uwamizu-zakura, Takato Kohigan, and Inuzakura, and the sight of their reflections on the surface of the moat is a beauty that moves many people.

Timed with the cherry blossom season, the period from early April to May’s Golden Week is called “鶴ヶ城さくらまつり”, during which various events are held.

With one of the largest scales in eastern Japan, the entire historic site is illuminated. In collaboration with various programs, events such as “鶴ヶ城公園ライトアップ”, where you can enjoy the fantastical beauty of 1,000 cherry trees floating against the night sky, “會津十楽春の陣”, which recreates the “Juraku” entertainment introduced to the castle town by Ujisato Gamo, and “鶴ヶ城さくらまつり大茶会” will be held.
     
石部桜

The Edohigan cherry “Ishibe-zakura,” said to be around 650 years old, featured in the opening of the Taiga drama “Yae no Sakura.”
It comprises ten trunks, and its canopy spreads to about 20 m at the widest point.
Surrounded by rice paddies, its grandeur stands out and captivates visitors.
 
     
 
Nitchu Line Weeping Cherry Avenue

One of Japan’s largest: Kitakata Nitchu Line Weeping Cherry Avenue.
The Nitchu Line Memorial Bicycle and Pedestrian Path in Kitakata City. The former JNR Nitchu Line right-of-way, after being decommissioned, was developed into a path exclusively for bicycles and pedestrians, where about 1,000 weeping cherry trees bloom in profusion along 3 km.
 
Kitakata Sakura Festival
April 9 (Thu)–April 23 (Thu), Reiwa 8 The Kitakata Sakura Festival will be held.
The weeping cherry trees and the Nitchu Line Memorial Museum are also illuminated, and many tourists visit every year.
