The Nitchū Line Memorial Bicycle and Pedestrian Path was developed along the former Japan National Railways Nitchū Line, which was discontinued, as a dedicated path for cyclists and pedestrians. Together with local citizens, about 1,000 weeping cherry trees were planted over 3 km, and it has now grown into an impressive avenue of weeping cherries.
Along the route, there are spectacular spots where the trees form a cherry-blossom tunnel, as well as a popular site displaying a steam locomotive that once ran on the Nitchū Line.

During the blooming season (mid to late April), it has ranked No. 1 in nationwide rankings of cherry blossom spots people want to visit, attracting many tourists from within and outside the prefecture, and has become a symbol of “Kitakata, welcoming with flowers.”

※During the illumination period, the temporary tourist parking lot at the former site of Kitakata Commercial High School can be used until 8:00 p.m.

Section　Plaza near the SL (in front of the temporary tourist parking lot at the former site of Kitakata Commercial High School)　Approx. 500 m

※Lights will be turned off sequentially after 8:00 p.m.; please watch your step.
