【Fukushima Destination Campaign Special Program】 The 8th Isasumi-no-Mori Tanabata Prayer Festival & Cool Wind Chimes ~Enjoy the coolness of 3,500 wind chimes and entrust your wishes to the stars~ ■ From Sat, July 18: Seven-color illumination 　Sunset～21:00 The wind-chime corridor along the Omotesando and the tower gate will be lit up in seven colors. Thereafter, they will be illuminated daily from sunset to 9:00 PM through the final day. ■ Fri, August 7　Tanabata Prayer Festival・乞巧奠(きっこうてん) 　18:00～ Prayers are offered for the fulfillment of wishes written on tanzaku, including mastery of the arts and matchmaking, and the Heian-period Tanabata rites are reenacted with waka poems and dances dedicated to the two stars. * Attendance is open and admission is free, but those who wish to receive talismans or commemorative items for the Tanabata Prayer Festival must register in advance.  

Using hammers and chisels, we will excavate bivalves, gastropods, fish bones, and more from the approximately 10-million-year-old 塩坪層. Except for particularly valuable items, you may take home the fossils you excavate. Maybe you'll find whale or sea cow bones, or shark teeth? Applications close one week before each session, but will end earlier once capacity is reached. On the day of the event, after registration begins at 8:45 a.m., we'll hold the opening ceremony and travel by bus to the 塩坪層 (depending on the number of participants, travel may be by private car). In the morning, you'll experience excavations at the 塩坪層 located about a 10-minute walk away; at noon we return to カイギュウランド for lunch, and in the afternoon we'll clean the fossils found in the morning at カイギュウランド.

At Jikuu no Atelier Inawashiro inside Roots Inawashiro, a commercial facility that repurposes a closed elementary school, from Saturday, June 13 we will hold the “Early Summer Grand Carpet Exhibition.” At the venue, you can view a variety of carpets, including Ghazni carpets created with the involvement of Afghan refugees, as well as antiques from around the world, including Ira n. One of the major factors that makes people feel heat and discomfort in summer is “humidity.” When humidity is high, sweat evaporates less easily and heat has a harder time escaping from the body. Natural wool has excellent moisture absorption and release, capable of absorbing moisture up to about 30% of the fiber’s weight, so even in Japan’s muggy summer it is less sti cky and feels smooth and comfortable under bare feet. It also eases the chill around your feet caused by air conditioning, bringing a natural comfort to everyday life. At this carpet exhibition, beyond such comfort, we invite you to engage with refugee support, handcraft culture, and the values of long-term use, proposing a way of life that connects people, nature, and even the lives of distant countries in a continuous line—not “cheapness” or “consumption”—so that the future decades from now will be made gradually richer.

Fukushima Prefectural Museum “Spring Special Exhibition” Insects We Can’t Ignore — People and Insects in Everyday Life You can’t talk about human life without insects?! How many insects are around you? Insects have been deeply intertwined with our lives historically and culturally. Through a variety of materials, this exhibition introduces cultures in which people have used insects, such as sericulture and beekeeping; rituals and beliefs to keep insects away, such as insect-sending and insect-cutting; and changes in people’s awareness of pests. We look back at ways of living with insects in daily life and explore what people have perceived through insects.  

～From the hands of the makers to the hands of the users～ The Furusato Aizu Kojin Festival is an event in the nature-rich Okuaizu where more than 100 makers from across Japan gather. It began in 1986, coinciding with the opening of the Living Crafts Museum. In Mishima Town, creators who devote themselves to making things using natural materials are collectively called 「工人（こうじん）」. Craftspeople who create Okuaizu braided crafts, as well as other plaited works, woodwork, ceramics, glass, and metalworking, bring their own creations and set up their stalls.
