Fifty Years After His Passing With Love from His Daughter 松原石舟展 ～In Pursuit of Art Uniquely His Own～ (Gallery Exhibition)

The connection between Aizu and the Imperial Household began when Misao, the younger sister of Yamakawa Hiroshi, became a lady-in-waiting to Empress Dowager Shōken, and with their adopted son Moku’s marriage to Gon-no-shōji Sakuragi no Tsubone, the presence of Aizu took root within the Imperial family. The relationship that our predecessors sought to build between Aizu and the Imperial Household can be said to have become unshakable when Princess Setsuko became the consort of the Chichibu-no-miya household. This September, when the Aizu Festival is held, we will look back on this connection by exhibiting calligraphy, paintings, and photographs by members of the Aizu Matsudaira family who were closely connected with Princess Setsuko. We will assemble items connected to such figures as the eighth daimyō, 容敬, her great-grandfather; the ninth daimyō, 容保, her blood grandfather; her biological father, Matsudaira Tsuneo; and her father-in-law, Matsudaira Yasuo. From Friday, September 4 to Monday, October 12 (national holiday), at Fukunishi Honten.

As is now a yearly tradition: Fushimiya Glass Shop in Koriyama. Showa-era glass, once an everyday presence in our lives, is filled with memories. Two young challengers are breathing new life into this Showa glass. From renewing your home, to creating a shop’s atmosphere, to refurbishing well-loved furniture—these things can be done with Showa glass. Why not take this opportunity to talk with the two young people? From there, dreams will surely be born, and the dreams that are born will become reality.
