In Taisho 7, the precociously gifted painter “松原石舟” won a prize at the Nitten at the age of nineteen; however, his life as a painter continued to wander in pursuit of “a painting that was his alone.” With support from the Morikawa and Hoshino families of 若松 (材木町), and after the war from the 本名 family of 郡山 (柏屋), he was able to leave behind many works until his death in Showa 51 at the age of seventy-seven. This time, moved by the strong wishes of his daughter (second daughter), 浅里久美子, and with the help of many collectors, we have brought together in one place works of diverse styles from Taisho 7 through the early Showa 50s (during the exhibition, works will be rotated between the first and second halves). We hope you will take this opportunity to enjoy the colorful, diverse, and at times even uncanny paintings of 松原石舟, which had been on the verge of fading with the flow of time. During the exhibition, on Saturday, July 11, from 1:30 p.m., there will be a gallery talk by his daughter (second daughter), 浅里久美子; we warmly invite you to attend.

We’re hosting a hands-on cooking event using an induction cooktop again this year! Families are very welcome to participate. This year we’ll make colorful crepes and marshmallow jelly. July 17 is Kitakata Ramen Day♪ The comedy duo “スゲーニョ,” the “Kitakata Ramen Ambassadors” who share the charm of Kitakata Ramen (髙橋良平 from Kitakata City and 金成裕也 from Aizumisato City), will put on a homecoming live show as a commemorative event for Kitakata Ramen Day! Everyone, please come and cheer for スゲーニョ. An event where you can experience the charms of Shōwa Village, centered on the traditional craft of ramie weaving. There will be ramie weaving demonstrations and hands-on sessions, tours of ramie fields and baby’s-breath fields, and a ramie-woven kimono show & photo session. In addition to food and craft stalls, there will also be a music stage. Admission is free.

Aizuwakamatsu City was among the first in the country to enact a landscape ordinance, but as time passes, the momentum to protect and nurture the scenery seems to be steadily fading. Amid this, in an effort to preserve nostalgic views on canvas, Mr. Ichinose continues to paint landscapes. This is a solo exhibition at the Fukunishi Honten Gallery, the first in four years since 2023. Many new works will be on display. During the exhibition, there will be two gallery talks by Mr. Ichinose: at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 25, and at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, July 28. Please participate via the usual admission procedure.

The River Festival, a summer event set on the Nippashi River that flows through Kitakata City, Aizuwakamatsu City, and Yukawa Village, will be held. During the daytime, the ever-popular raft descent race takes place, with around 30 teams competing for speed. In the evening, a wide variety of fireworks will color the sky over the Nippashi River, adding splendor to the River Festival. A highlight is the collaboration between Chinese fireworks—known for their hues and crackling reports—and elegant Japanese fireworks.

【Fukushima Destination Campaign Special Program】 The 8th Isasumi-no-Mori Tanabata Prayer Festival & Cool Wind Chimes ~Enjoy the coolness of 3,500 wind chimes and entrust your wishes to the stars~ ■ From Sat, July 18: Seven-color illumination 　Sunset～21:00 The wind-chime corridor along the Omotesando and the tower gate will be lit up in seven colors. Thereafter, they will be illuminated daily from sunset to 9:00 PM through the final day. ■ Fri, August 7　Tanabata Prayer Festival・乞巧奠(きっこうてん) 　18:00～ Prayers are offered for the fulfillment of wishes written on tanzaku, including mastery of the arts and matchmaking, and the Heian-period Tanabata rites are reenacted with waka poems and dances dedicated to the two stars. * Attendance is open and admission is free, but those who wish to receive talismans or commemorative items for the Tanabata Prayer Festival must register in advance.  

Using hammers and chisels, we will excavate bivalves, gastropods, fish bones, and more from the approximately 10-million-year-old 塩坪層. Except for particularly valuable items, you may take home the fossils you excavate. Maybe you'll find whale or sea cow bones, or shark teeth? Applications close one week before each session, but will end earlier once capacity is reached. On the day of the event, after registration begins at 8:45 a.m., we'll hold the opening ceremony and travel by bus to the 塩坪層 (depending on the number of participants, travel may be by private car). In the morning, you'll experience excavations at the 塩坪層 located about a 10-minute walk away; at noon we return to カイギュウランド for lunch, and in the afternoon we'll clean the fossils found in the morning at カイギュウランド.
